The audience journeys with the performers across different regions of our country through India’s myriad classical, folk, martial art forms moving into the fusion and contemporary dance idioms, symbolic of the balance of tradition and modernity which makes up – India.

This choreography uniquely brings together both the well-known and rare dance traditions of India from across the North, East, West and South of this country which lives the adage – ‘Unity in Diversity’.
Kathak and Bharatanatyam – classical forms, Yakshagana & Tamasha – operatic forms, Thang tha & Chhau – martial arts, Garudi Gombe & Kachchi Ghodi – folk forms, form a vibrant spectacle showcasing both the lyricism and vigour of the Indian dance heritage which is still a living tradition in our country.
This powerful high-energy dance sequence is inspired by the rare martial arts forms of Kalaripayattu from Kerala, Thang Ta from Manipur, Chauu from Orissa, West Bengal along with motifs of Hatha Yoga.
The choreography is inspired by the attributes of the Sun God- Surya : energy, sustenance and strength.
Drawing on the Kampni’s strong foundations in Kathak, this sequence fuses motifs of Kathak from India and Flamenco from Spain in its choreography and music design. Tarana reiterates our belief that dance transcends all boundaries of geography, politics, race and creates communities.

This is a light-hearted take on the athletic grace of sport. The practiced ease of movement of athletes is akin to that of dancers. Sports takes us back to a short-lived but carefree age when battles were fought only on the playing field.

Jangam is a mystical Kannada term for- Momentum.

This sequence is inspired by the jazz idiom. The usage of improvisation in the musical cultures of jazz and Carnatic music led to the creation of this piece. The Belgian Jazz band AKA moon and Smt. Ramamani and the Karnataka College of percussion have played on this piece composed by jazz guitarist Amit Heri.

Dharma is the universal establishment of this world, it is the combination of forces that sustain life. This piece brings together the basic truth in all the philosophies of the world, that of – peace and harmony. This piece had its world premiere in USA for the Global Dharma conference.
Based on the traditional ten beat time cycle- Jhap taal, this piece utilizes motifs of Kathak in a contemporary framework

Sankalan

Sankalan refers to an amalgam. This unique choreography starts with an auditory/ rhythmic interaction with the audience that leads to a Kathak based, upbeat mosaic of rhythm, melody and bonhomie.
Rhapsody
Kathak, painting, artistry, jazz funk, fluidity, lyricism
It is a pure dance exploration of the series – “Rhapsody” by the illustrious artiste S G Vasudev. The Kathak idiom collocates with Raag Durbari as the dancers rhapsodise the lines, textures, colours and compositions from this series in and around a water body. Keeping with the theme of- A return to the Sama, this is explored in a 10-beat cycle- Jhap taal.

Kalpavriksha
Is a choreographic response to the illustrious artist- S.G. Vasudev’s prodigious receptacle of imagery. This work doesn’t merely excogitate a visual trajectory but is a composite transcreation where movement textures, a sense of drama, poetry and soundscapes merge into a unique choreographic canvas. The tree of life- “Vriksha” is a ubiquitous presence in Vasudev’s work. Karnataka’s poet laureate- Da Ra Bendre’s poem- “Kalpa Vriksha Vrindavanam” had a cathartic effect on him way back in 1974 and became a theme that recurs as a leit motif in his work till today. In the production too, we find ourselves in Bendre’s mystical grove, facing the Kalpa Vriksha, seemingly immutable but creating an eco-system where …He, she, them as Maithuna, fantastical creatures, forest nymphs, children, lamenting partners, …all co-exist with undercurrents of love, seduction, loss, fecundity, barrenness, nostalgia, words and silence.
Vajra, as the diamond; and Vajra as lightning, connect to the qualities of indestructibility, Shakti, brilliance, Immortality, unbridled power, enlightenment and tangible forms of the permanence of divinity. The human spirit as a potent vessel for receiving & emanating brilliance, as an indestructible force and as a weapon that wields wisdom is the undercurrent of this work. An exciting mixed media production with 8 collaborators, which encompasses original music, photographic art, interactive multimedia design, costume design, literature (ancient, esoteric and modern), and Martial arts with Dance.
The body with its inherent design- the physical form, the genetic structure and thought patterns is viewed independently or in a collective sense as a mandala. Divine forces are propitiated in the form of Mandalas in every
culture which are transformations of reality, finally culminating in the universe of mind and matter. This piece has an exciting multimedia design with which the dancers interact.
Yugma
Yugma is an exploration of the myriad levels of human consciousness in the journey of life. It deals with the timeless question of existence and identity and is a parody of social mores, virtue against vice, mind over body, illusion versus reality. Raja Rao’s “serpent and the rope” and Brecht’s”7 deadly sins of the petty bourgeoisie” have inspired this production.

This sequence was a reaction to violence and violations around us and explored the different textures and shades of love.
